Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd was incorporated in 1969 by the Government of Malaysia. The eighties witnessed the making of a significant milestone in Sports Toto corporate history. The Company was privatised on 1st August 1985, relinquishing henceforth, status quo as a state-owned gaming enterprise. Sports Toto is currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berjaya Sports Toto Berhad which is listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange.

Today, Sports Toto is the sole national lotto operator with over 680 outlets throughout Malaysia and offers a variety of games digit-type games (namely, 4D, 5D and 6D) and lotto-type games (namely, Mega Toto 6/52 , Power Toto 6/55, Supreme Toto 6/58) for the patronage of the Malaysian gaming market.

Since 1969, the Company has donated substantial amounts to the promotion and development of sports, youth and cultural activities in the nation. The Company has an ongoing commitment as a responsible corporate citizen.

The Company will continue to support and nurture sporting excellence in the country through its contributions. In line with the Company philosophy of promoting a caring society, it also makes contributions to charitable organizations, the sick, the aged, the poor and the needy.

The Company concentric circular logo traces its origins to the Greek amphitheatre - the historical symbol of the sporting arena. The concept of the logo symbolises the Company commitment to promote and develop sporting excellence in the country; formalising the original raison of the Company. The corporate colours of red and black in the logo represent solidarity and strength of commitment.

Today, the Company has a total staff strength of more than 450 working at its head office in Kuala Lumpur and branches throughout Malaysia, and over 1,500 staff employed by agents of the Company.

As part of our promotion and marketing campaign we have introduced a mascot 'The Toto Bird' depicted as a caricature parakeet. The parakeet is chosen because of its long association with fortune-telling and is always seen as a bird heralding good fortune, thus being appropriate for a gaming business. We employed the caricature of the parakeet along with the slogan "GO FOR IT!" and these have been the theme in all our promotional campaigns, advertisement materials, in the introduction of new Toto games, and thereby enhancing Sports Toto's presence in major sports events, charities and other company functions.

Malaysia Lottery

In Malaysia, there are three main 4D providers - Sports Toto, Magnum 4D and Da Ma Cai. Da Ma Cai is run by Pan Malaysian Pools Sdn Bhd which also organises racing bets. The other two are independent companies.

Magnum 4D offers the classic 4D game - the player picks a 4 digit number and chooses the amount he wants to bet. There are Big and Small Forecasts. A Small bet will warrant higher winnings, but the player will only win if his number comes up in the first, second or third places. The winnings are lower for a Big bet, but in addition to the first, second and third places, there are 10 Special numbers which pay RM200 for a RM1 bet, and 10 consolation numbers which pay RM60 for a RM1 bet. Magnum is the first legalised 4D operator to be awarded the license by the Malaysian Government, and the favorite Magnum 4D number for the first prize is 7164 which will be out this end of year especially in every December.

Da Ma Cai ( Pan-Malaysia Lottery in Mandarin ) has a 3D game as well as 4D ( which they call 1+3D ). Unlike the 1+3D, the 3D only has first, second, and third places. Prizes are significantly lower than 1+3D, the top prize being RM660 for Big First Place. Their 1+3D follows the same structure as the Magnum 4D.

Sports Toto, in addition to the basic 4D played the same way as Magnum and Da Ma Cai, runs 5D and 6D games as well. Unlike 4D, 5D and 6D do not have Big and Small Forecasts. First prize for 6D is RM100,000 and first prize for 5D is RM15,000. If the last 4, 3, or 2 digits of your 5D number ( or the last 5, 4, 3, or 2 digits of your 6D number ) match the first prize number, you still get a prize. Sports Toto also offers three lottery games, similar to those seen in Western countries. These are Mega Toto 6/52, Power Toto 6/55 & Supreme Toto 6/58. The last number indicates the highest number - Mega Toto 6/52 requires the player to pick 6 numbers from 1 to 52. The Supreme Toto 6/58 has the highest prizes ( first prize is a minimum of more than RM8.8 million ) but the probability of winning is lower than the others games as there are more numbers.

Singapore Pools ( ToTo )

TOTO is a legalized form of lottery sold in Singapore, known by different names elsewhere. Singapore Pools is the only legal lottery operator in Singapore. It was established on 23 May 1968 to control widespread illegal gambling in Singapore during the 1960s.

TOTO is a popular form of gambling in Singapore. In February 2005, a survey conducted by the Ministry of Community Development, [ Youth and Sports ] ( MCYS ) indicated that 58% of the Singapore residents surveyed had participated in at least one form of gambling activity over the past year. Among those surveyed, TOTO rated the second most popular type of gambling activity, after 4-Digits. The average monthly median betting amount of those surveyed who bought TOTO was placed at S$48. TOTO can be purchased from any of the 300 Singapore Pools outlets across Singapore. Draws are conducted every Monday and Thursday. The live TOTO draw can be viewed at the Singapore Pools Main Branch at 1 Selegie Road, #01-01, Paradiz Centre. The profits from TOTO go to the Singapore Totaliser Board ( the owner of Singapore Pools ) which uses the money for charity and other worthy causes.

Singapore Pools is the sole provider of gambling games in Singapore. 4-D and lottery 6/45 are two of the most popular.

A buyer picks at least six numbers, each on a basis of 1 to 45. The winning numbers drawn include six numbers plus an additional number. Four or more numbers on a ticket matching the seven numbers drawn qualifies the buyer for a cash prize. The prize money escalates with the increase in numbers matched.

The maximum allowed matching numbers is six. Thus, if six numbers on the TOTO ticket matches the six numbers drawn, the jackpot ( Group 1 ) prize is won.

The minimum bet amount is S$1.00 per bet ticket. This could make up of either two Ordinary bets for one draw or one Ordinary bet for two consecutive draws. Bets can also be placed by bet amounts. The computer automatically sells the buyer the maximum number of bets for the bet type placed. The balance amount is placed on the next lowest bet type.

The TOTO prizes form 54% of the total TOTO sales for each draw. The prize pool is divided between 6 prize groups. The minimum guaranteed amount for Group 1 Prize is S$500,000.

In Singapore, 4-D draws are conducted every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday in the evening at Singapore Pools' main branch at Paradiz Centre. Anyone above the age of 18 can attend the draw.

An independent external auditor and five draw officials are involved in the draw process. Before the draw, a specially designed computer is run to randomly select the draw machine and the set of draw balls to be used. A backup machine is also chosen.

The selected draw balls, numbered 0 to 9, are weighed and check that their individual weight is within acceptable variance margin. This is to ensure that every ball has an equal chance of being drawn.

The selected machines, secured under lock and numbered seal in a storage room, is transferred to the draw hall, along with the balls.

The balls are loaded into the draw machine in front of the audience. A member of the audience is then invited to press the start switch on the control panel, launching the draw. The balls in the draw machine, made up of four transparent cylinders, spin until a ball is sucked into a groove found in each cylinder.

The drawing process, starting from the consolation prizes, is repeated until all 23 sets of numbers are drawn.
